Routine Care
Our clinic recommends these basic guidelines for keeping your pet healthy!
- Annual examinations for younger pets (<7 years old)
- Semi-annual (every 6 months) examination for elderly pets (>7 years old)
- Prompt evaluation of your pet, if he or she is feeling under the weather.
- The earlier we can catch a disease, the more often we can treat or manage it successfully!

- Routine vaccination
- We individually tailor a vaccination protocol to fit your pet’s needs!
- Every 3 years for rabies (or annually, if required by your municipality) for dogs.
- Every 3 years for the distemper combination- FVRCP for cats, DA2PP for dogs.
- Annual bordetella vaccination is recommended for dogs that may be exposed to other dogs, especially in boarding or grooming facilities
- Annual leptospirosis vaccination is recommended for dogs that may be at risk for exposure to leptospirosis.
- Annual rabies vaccine for cats.
- Annual feline leukemia vaccination is recommended for cats that may be exposed to other cats, especially cats that are allowed outdoors. Negative testing is required prior to starting this vaccine.
- Annual heartworm testing and year-round heartworm prevention
- Year-round flea and tick prevention

- Spay or neuter at 6 months of age
- Spaying your female pet prior to her first heat cycle dramatically reduces the risk of her developing malignant mammary tumors, as well as eliminates the risk of pregnancy, uterine cancer, and ovarian cancer.
- Neutering your male pet before maturity reduces his desires to mark territory and act aggressively, as well as eliminating the risk of testicular cancer.
- Spaying and neutering your pet helps reduce the number of unwanted pets. There are a large number of homeless, but loveable, animals awaiting adoption at your local shelter.
- See our “Discounted Spay/Neuter” page for information on our program!
- Maintaining your pet at a healthy weight

- Microchipping
- Permanent identification for your pet.
- A safe, simple procedure for implantation. It can be done at any visit.
- Allows identification of your pet, even if they lose their collar. Found pets can be scanned at any shelter or veterinary clinic.
- Dental health
- Maintaining your pet’s dental health dramatically improves their overall health. Dental disease can impact liver, kidney, and even heart health!
- Brushing at home is the easiest way to minimize plaque and tartar build-up between professional cleanings.
- Professional cleanings should be performed as needed to keep your pet’s teeth clean and their breath fresh. These cleanings are needed to remove any hard tartar build-up.
